When congregations, schools, neighborhoods, and institutions from across the county gather together and stand with one voice, we show County Executive Elrich and our County Council what people power looks like. That's the purpose of this action—to remind our leaders that they work for us, and that we are watching to make sure they follow through on their specific commitments that will help Montgomery County families thrive.

Our AIM leaders have been hard at work preparing for this Action. They've been making phone calls, inviting friends, neighbors, and congregants to the Action in order to reach our turnout goals. A talented slate of AIM leaders will deliver testimonies at the Action, sharing powerful stories and not shying away from asking direct questions of County Executive Elrich. They include:

Bishop Darlingston Johnson, Bethel World Outreach Ministries International

Adileh Sharieff, Islamic Center of Maryland

Rev. Dr. Kecia Ford, Black Ministers Alliance

Rev. Nancy McDonald Ladd, River Road Unitarian Universalist Church

Rev. John Nixon II, Takoma Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church

Rev. Charles Tapp, Sligo Seventh-Day Adventist Church

Council members on stage at our 2019 Accountability Action

This Action is not a public forum. Our elected officials will not be delivering versions of stump speeches or touting their latest policies. We invited them to come to answer our questions, as we hold them to account over the following promises they have previously made to AIM:

  • Build affordable housing on public land

  • Expand after-school programs in high-poverty schools

  • Increase legal funding for immigrants

Next week's Accountability Action will be an important moment for all residents of Montgomery County as we demonstrate our power and vision as a united community—that we believe in an equitable Montgomery County that reflects and serves the desires and goals of its residents.

Will you stand with us next Thursday to remind our elected officials that they work for us
